On the infinite-valued Lukasiewicz logic that preserves degrees of truth

چکیده
Lukasiewicz’s infinite-valued logic is commonly defined as the set of formulas that take the value 1 under all evaluations in the Lukasiewicz algebra on the unit real interval. In the literature a deductive system axiomatized in a Hilbert style was associated to it, and was later shown to be semantically defined from Lukasiewicz algebra by using a “truthpreserving” scheme. This deductive system is algebraizable, non-selfextensional and does not satisfy the deduction theorem. In addition, there exists no Gentzen calculus fully adequate for it. Another presentation of the same deductive system can be obtained from a substructural Gentzen calculus. In this paper we use the framework of abstract algebraic logic to study a different deductive system which uses the aforementioned algebra under a scheme of “preservation of degrees of truth”. We characterize the resulting deductive system in a natural way by using the lattice filters of Wajsberg algebras, and also by using a structural Gentzen calculus, which is shown to be fully adequate for it. This logic is an interesting example for the general theory: it is selfextensional, non-protoalgebraic, and satisfies a “graded” deduction theorem. Moreover, the Gentzen system is algebraizable. The first mentioned deductive system turns out to be the extension of the second by the rule of Modus Ponens. MSC 2000 Classification: 03B50, 03G20, 06D35, 03B22.

A Co-inductive Language and Truth Degrees
We investigate what happens if PA LTr2, a co-inductive language, formalizes itself. We analyze the truth concept in fuzzy logics by formalizing truth degree theory in the framework of truth theories in fuzzy logics. Hájek-Paris-Shepherdson’s paradox [HPS00] involves that so called truth degrees do not represent the degrees of truthhood (defined by the truth predicate) correctly in Lukasiewicz i...
متن کاملFinite Satisfiability in Infinite-Valued Lukasiewicz Logic
Although it is well-known that every satisfiable formula in Lukasiewicz’ infinite-valued logic L∞ can be satisfied in some finitevalued logic, practical methods for finding an appropriate number of truth degrees do currently not exist. As a first step towards efficient reasoning in L∞, we propose a method to find a tight upper bound on this number which, in practice, often significantly improve...
متن کاملFrom Games to Truth Functions: A Generalization of Giles's Game
Motivated by aspects of reasoning in theories of physics, Robin Giles defined a characterization of infinite valued Lukasiewicz logic in terms of a game that combines Lorenzen-style dialogue rules for logical connectives with a scheme for betting on results of dispersive experiments for evaluating atomic propositions. We analyze this game and provide conditions on payoff functions that allow us...
متن کاملInterpolation and Three-valued Logics
We consider propositional logic. Three-valued logics are old: the first one is Lukasiewicz three valued logic from 1920 [8]. Gödel in [5] from 1932 studied a hierarchy of finite-valued logics, containing Gödel three-valued logic. Our main interest pays to Kleene three-valued logic [6]. Other threevalued logics will not be considered here. Let us agree that the three truth values are 0, 1 2 , 1 ...
متن کاملTruth Values and Connectives in Some Non-Classical Logics
The question as to whether the propositional logic of Heyting, which was a formalization of Brouwer's intuitionistic logic, is finitely many valued or not, was open for a while (the question was asked by Hahn). Kurt Gödel (1932) introduced an infinite decreasing chain of intermediate logics, which are known nowadays as Gödel logics, for showing that the intuitionistic logic is not finitely (man...
